When he was sailing around the tip of South America, he found a westward passage and it named it The Strait of Magellan in his name.  Ferdinand Magellan also found the Pacific Ocean (named that because of its calm and peaceful waters).  After sailing around for a couple of days he landed in Guam, and then he landed in the Phillipines where he was killed.
